Fighting Odors and Flies, su-re.co’s Bio Fighter Transforms Organic Waste into Compost in Just Two Months

BADUNG, BALI – Organic waste remains one of Bali’s most pressing environmental challenges. Food waste generated daily by thousands of hotels, restaurants, and households continues to add to the growing volume of waste, much of which ultimately ends up in landfills. This situation not only creates environmental concerns but also contributes to unpleasant odors and potential pollution.


To address this challenge, PT Sustainability & Resilience Indonesia (su-re.co) has introduced a regenerative innovation through Bio Fighter, an organic waste management solution designed to accelerate the decomposition process into compost without producing unpleasant odors or attracting flies.


The technology was introduced during the workshop “Regenerative Pathways for Sustainable Change: Waste, Agroforestry, and Bioeconomy Nexus,” held at Noema Resort in Pererenan, Badung, on February 18, 2026. The event brought together representatives from the Badung Regency Government, academics, environmental organizations, businesses, and sustainability-focused communities.


su-re.co Founder, Prof. Dr. Takeshi Takama, explained that Bio Fighter is developed using locally sourced Balinese microorganisms that help accelerate the decomposition of organic waste while supporting more environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

“Many waste managers are discouraged by the long waiting period required to produce compost. With Bio Fighter, organic waste can be converted into fertilizer much faster, without unpleasant odors and without attracting flies during the decomposition process,” said Takama.


According to him, just one liter of Bio Fighter diluted with water can support the treatment of up to 10 tons of organic waste. In addition to accelerating compost production, the technology helps reduce dependence on chemical-based agricultural inputs.


Takama added that the innovation reflects su-re.co’s commitment to advancing a circular economy in Bali. Organic waste, often viewed as a burden, can instead be transformed into a valuable resource for agriculture and environmental restoration. The benefits of Bio Fighter have already been experienced by several users. I Made Darsana, Head of Wanagiri Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), said that his village requires sustainable waste management solutions that support organic farming practices.

“Wanagiri Village serves as a water source for several surrounding villages. Therefore, we must protect environmental quality and minimize the use of chemicals. Bio Fighter helps us decompose organic waste into compost that can be reused for agricultural purposes,” he said.

Similar benefits were highlighted by Made Arisandika, Principal of SD Negeri 2 Pererenan, who noted that the technology has significantly improved organic waste management at the school.

“Without Bio Fighter, the decomposition process takes much longer and produces unpleasant odors. With Bio Fighter, organic waste can be turned into compost within two months,” he explained.


Meanwhile, Anak Agung Gede Dalem, Head of Waste Management and Hazardous Waste Division at the Badung Environmental and Sanitation Agency (DLHK), revealed that Bio Fighter has been used at the Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) and Recycling Center (PDU) Mengwitani for approximately one year.


According to him, the technology has proven effective in supporting compost production from incoming organic waste.

“We are currently producing around 17 tons of compost per day. Approximately 20 percent of the organic waste received can be converted into compost,” he stated.

In addition to Bio Fighter, DLHK Badung and su-re.co jointly operate a waste processing facility utilizing technology from Ishibashi Limited, Japan, through a collaboration involving the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the City of Toyama, and the Badung Regency Government.


The facility is capable of processing approximately 50 tons of waste per day and producing around 11 tons of compost that can be utilized by local communities. Through more effective sorting and processing systems, the volume of residual waste sent to landfills can be significantly reduced.


Beyond waste management, the two-day workshop also showcased various climate-smart products developed in collaboration with local farmers, including Wanagiri coffee, Bajawa coffee, Jembrana cocoa powder, Tabanan chocolate, Maluku walnuts, and Sulawesi vanilla.

On the second day of the event, participants joined a tree-planting activity in Wanagiri Village, Buleleng Regency, while continuing discussions on agroforestry and bioeconomy development as part of broader efforts to strengthen community resilience to climate change.


Through these innovations, su-re.co aims to shift the perception of organic waste from an environmental burden to an opportunity for creating a circular economy that benefits communities, farmers, and the environment in a sustainable manner.
